The Cafe

The setting

Located in a grade 2 listed building that was originally the docks grain store, though it had many other uses including a fish market, an office furniture showrooms and even a store for the spring bulbs in the municipal gardens before the derelict building was refurbished.

The front of the café overlooks the award winning Sail Bridge and weather permitting tables go on either side of the building to make the most of the sunrise over the docks and the sunset over the bridge. If the weather fails us we have use of the arcade so even if you have your dog with you, you can sit undercover and be assured of the same service as inside the café.

Our interior is furnished with a mixture of seating, high and low tables and integral jewellery and giftware, we have used a modern but mellow colour scheme.  We have done our best to enhance the elements of this sturdy building that played such an important part in Swansea’s heritage.  The girders that hold the building together, the lovely mellow brickwork and half valued ceilings are all proudly enhanced.

The food

Each dish is made especially for you at the time of your order.  Our daytime menu provides an excellent choice of staple dishes from sandwiches, omelettes, salads and jacket potatoes with your choice of filling(s) to daily Specials, like pastas, soups and sandwiches on  ciabatta, served with TwoCann Coleslaw and crisps.

Our Friday and Saturday evening menu changes weekly and has a some of the daytime favourites like bruschetta, soup, smoked salmon etc. and the main courses feature fillet steak as well as a  fish dish  like pan fried haddock with mashed potatoes, green beans and mustard sauce,  a chicken and vegetarian option are also available.

The drinks

We are very proud of our coffee not just for its presentation but because of our association with Ferraris based in Ogmore Vale where our Fair-trade beans are toasted.  Latte is undoubtedly our trademark drink with the shot being served separately to allow you the flexibility to make your perfect drink.  All our coffees are served with our mini Welsh Cakes (which are made every day and sold in little bags at the weekends).  We have many other hot and cold drinks on offer all made with the same attention to detail.

We have sourced our wines from helpful local suppliers; keeping your requests in mind we feel we have a good spread of white, rosé and sparkling options to tempt you.  Not to mention Welsh bottled beers, ciders and fruit juices too.

The ambiance

A member of our team will seat you at the most appropriate table, leave menus with you and return to take your order, because of this a comfortable feel is achieved, even when we are busy.  People who do have to hurry back to work always say they feel too relaxed to go back and what a lovely atmosphere the place has.

The team

We have a 14 strong team to allow us to prepare all our food freshly and to give you the waitered service you enjoy.  Some of our team are still with us from day one.

Vacancies

Luckily for us we do not have a very high turnover of staff but if you want to work in an environment that offers high standards of food and service then send or drop your CV to the café and when a vacancy next arises that fits your skills we will be in touch.

Private Events

The café can be hired outside of our regular opening hours for private events such as birthday parties, weddings, launches etc. for 100 – 120 people.

Our licence allows us to serve alcohol and provide music until midnight.

If you would like more information, please call us on 01792 458000 and ask to speak to Catherine to discuss your requirements.
